Rep. Merrick Recognizes Outstanding Schools

At the close of the school year, Rep. Merrick toured the schools in the 27th District which achieved outstanding results on Kansas Assessments.

May 30-31, 2006 - Stilwell, Olathe, and Overland Park:

Rep. Ray Merrick took two days to visit schools in the 27th District which had achieved oustanding results on Kansas Assessments.

"It was an honor to have these schools open their doors to allow me to present this recognition on behalf of the Kansas Legislature," said Merrick. "With the focus on school funding in Topeka, these teachers, principals, staff, and even the students often go unrecognized for their hard work and great achievements."

The Standard of Excellence is awarded to schools that show exceptional performance on a particular Kansas Assessment.

-Reading is given in 5th grade, 8th grade and 11th grade.
-Math and Science are given in 4th, 7th, and 10th grade.
-Social Studies is Given in 6th and 8th Grade.   

The following Schools in House District 27 achieved the following Standard of Excellence in areas noted:

Blue River Elementary: Reading, Math, Science
Cedar Hills Elementary: Math, Science
Liberty View Elementary: Reading, Math, Science
Morse Elementary: Reading, Math, Science
Prairie Star Elementary: Reading, Math, Science
Stanley Elementary: Reading, Math, Science
Stilwell Elementary: Reading, Math, Science

Blue Valley Middle School: Math, 6th Grade Social Studies
Pleasant Ridge Middle School: 6th grade and 8th grade Social Studies
Prairie Star Middle: Reading, Math, Science

Blue Valley High School: Math, Science, Social Studies
Blue Valley West High School: Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies
